Prof. ZHANG Tao and DICP Scientists in ICAME2011

From 27th to 29th of September, Prof. ZHANG Tao, Director, Prof. WANG Junhu and Dr. LIN Ronghe of DICP attended the 31st International Conference on the Applications of Mössbauer Effect (ICAME2011) held in Japan. ICAME is one of the most important conferences in the Mössbauer research field. As a permanent guest-member of the International Board on the Applications of Mössbauer Effect (IBAME), Prof. Zhang was invited to deliver a presentation with the title of “Report on the Mössbauer Effect Data Center (Transition from Asheville to Dalian), Plans for the Future” on the IBAME meeting. Then, on September 29, Prof. Zhang gave an impromptu talk on the ICAME2011 banquet. Moreover, during the conference, Prof. Zhang had moderated a Consultation Committee meeting of the Mössbauer Effect Data Center (MEDC, located in DICP, http://www.medc.dicp.ac.cn/), and introduced to the committee members on the development status of the MEDC as well as the preparatory work on the organizing of the International Symposium on the Industrial Applications of the Mössbauer Effect (ISIAME2012, http://www.medc.dicp.ac.cn/isiame2012), which is to be held in Dalian next year. Valuable ideas and comments were given by the approximately 30 committee members, including Prof. D.L. Nagy, Chairman of the IBAME.

On the ICAME2011, Prof. Wang delivered an invited talk on the MEDC Mössbauer database, while Dr. Lin delivered an oral presentation on the recent research in catalysis characterization by Mössbauer spectroscopy.

After the ICAME2011, Prof. Zhang, Prof. Wang and Dr. Lin were invited by Prof. XU Qiang of the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST), Japan, to visit the Kansai Center of AIST, where Prof. Zhang presented a lecture with the title of “Design, Preparation and Characterization of Supported Metal Catalysts - Catalysis from Nanoparticles to Single Atoms”. Besides, they also had friendly meetings with Japanese scientists and the Acting Director of AIST Kansai Center, Dr. Tetsuhiko Kobayashi.

During their stay in Japan, they had also paid an visit to Mrs. GUO Xidai, a retired DICP librarian now living in Yokohama, and Prof. Zhang extended on behalf of DICP a warm congratulation to her 90th birthday.
